ARTISSIMA 2021
ARTISSIMA, Dialogue
Mark Dion & Camila Sposati
Georg Kargl Fine Arts presents two artists that deal with political and historical notions connected to the urgencies of our time. Both artists, Mark Dion and Camila Sposati are active advocates for the ecological state of the earth. Each in his/her own unique way, challenges our perception and common conventions.
Mark Dion belongs to the political artists who pioneered the way we understand nature, environment and ecology. The appropriation of scientific methods such as field research, collecting, classifying and present objects is an essential part of his artistic praxis, in which he examines the relation of culture and nature and its representation as an indicator of ideological discourse.
Camila Sposati investigates in her works transformation and energy processes, using methods that often approach scientific research methodologies. She has examined processes on microscopic and global scale, such as the growth of crystals in laboratories and the geological effects on the Earth’s crust on different sites. In her work, Sposati juxtaposes material and historical processes in order to challenge our perception of nature and its significations.
