Lenora de Barros: Fogo no Olho
For 40 years, Lenora de Barros has been creating works in various media and fields that reflect on language and the body. A small retrospective of this body of work, featuring photography and video, was selected to open the program for MUPA’s Second Public Program, Bodies—Traces, Matrices—Species, which this year featured more than 60 events centered on the cross-cutting languages of the body.
The selection included iconic works such as Poema (1979), Língua Vertebral (1998), and Fogo no Olho (1994)—which lends its name to the exhibition—as well as lesser-known works, such as the video Procuro-me (2003), a performance staged in Curitiba in 2003 based on the artist’s celebrated series of self-portraits.
