Mauricio Ianês
Sleeping With The Enemy
24h Performance: 30. June 10 a.m. - 1. July 10 a.m.
In the performance Sleeping With The Enemy, Maurício Ianês reflects on the use of symbols and language to undermine and reveal their ideological use. Many of these signs are invisible to the inattentive eye and exhausted by their insistent use. By juxtaposing and highlighting these symbols in everyday objects, Ianês affirms the contradictions of art, aesthetics, and politics in our contemporary society and questions how they can be used as a mean of promoting exclusion and oppression.
In this 24h hour performance, the artist will be taken to exhaustion by singing repeatedly. In an environment filled with symbols of constraint, protest and consumption, the artist presents a body that does not belong politically to a normative social society, thus pointing out how sensibility and desire are coopted by an oppressive discourse.
