Dario Wokurka
Dario Wokurka’s practice explores the potentials of contemporary art and, in recent years, of painting in particular, while giving equal attention to reflections on exhibition formats and the ways in which information is circulated.
Art, when understood as an intersubjective pursuit, is shaped not only by the intentions, expectations and experiences of artists, but also by those of its mediators, interpreters, viewers and other supporting agents. Each work of art needs to assert its presence as an expression of symbolic form, a presence that is to be continually claimed and negotiated. In Dario Wokurka’s works, this process is scrutinized in relation to existing forms and formats, whether through affirmation, negation, or investigation.
Attentiveness to the historical contexts of artworks, as well as to their conceptual, material, and social conditions is not only fundamental to Wokurka’s artistic practice, but also central to understanding his work.
