Peter Fend
Peter Fend (*1950, Columbus, Ohio) ist ein wahrhaft einzigartiger Künstler, dessen Werk die Grenzen von Architektur, Design, Aktivismus, Stadtplanung und Kunstgeschichte überschreitet. Fend arbeitet von seiner Position innerhalb der Kunstwelt aus und nutzt Forschung, territoriale Pläne und Entwürfe, um Lösungen für eine Reihe von ökologischen und geopolitischen Fragen vorzuschlagen, die das Potenzial haben, Regierungen, Unternehmen, politische Entscheidungsträger und Einzelpersonen zu beeinflussen. Fends Position ist ein starkes Plädoyer für das Engagement der Kunst im öffentlichen Raum, um ihre transformative Vision in die Architekturen und soziopolitischen Systeme, die die Welt und ihre Ressourcen regieren, einzubringen und die Ordnung zwischen der sozialen und der natürlichen Welt neu zu gestalten. Seine weitreichende Praxis ermutigt zur Untersuchung der Art und Weise, wie Kunst innerhalb der Gesellschaft und der realen Welt funktioniert, und stellt in der Tat die Überlegungen zur Kunst selbst in Frage und erweitert sie.
1980 gründete Fend in Zusammenarbeit mit anderen Künstlern ein Unternehmen, das heute als Ocean Earth Development Corporation bekannt ist. In den 1980er Jahren untersuchte und überwachte die OEDC Satellitenbilder, die vor allem für investigative Berichterstattungen verwendet wurden, mit dem Ziel, Kunstprojekte an Kunden zu verkaufen, die nicht aus dem Kunstbereich kamen. Heute präsentiert Fend Arbeiten in einer Vielzahl von Medien in ortsspezifischen Installationen und Situationen. Diese Arbeiten zielen darauf ab, Lösungen für reale Probleme vorzuschlagen und die hegemonialen Darstellungen und die Organisation des Territoriums durch die Nationalstaaten in Frage zu stellen.
Seine Arbeiten wurden in der 47. Venedig Biennale (2003), der 45. Venedig Biennale (1999), in der Documenta IX, Kassel (1992) und in zahlreichen Ausstellungen international, wie dem Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst, Zürich (2020), Second Yinchuan Biennale,Yinchuan (2018), Bard Hessel Museum, New York (2018), MUMOK, Vienna (2015), Kunsthal Aarhus, Aarhus (2015), Kunsthal Aarhus, Aarhus (2015), Musée d’Art Moderne et Contemporain, Geneva (2010), Galerie für Landschaftskunst, Hamburg (2007) und Palais de Tokyo, Paris (2004) gezeigt.
